We’re now six months in, which means I’ve already been wearing my pair of B-02 REGULAR STRAIGHT 14 oz. green cast selvedge for half a year as well.
In the last update I mentioned that I was considering giving them their first wash, but I eventually decided to postpone it a little longer. Now, one month later, I’m facing the same question again: to wash, or not to wash?
The main difference between washing now or postponing the first wash is the level of contrast in the fading. The sooner you wash, the less contrast you’ll get, resulting in a more gradual and even fade. Since this pair is already quite far along, it will definitely develop strong contrast in the whiskers and honeycombs. However, if I wash them now, the fading that develops from this point onward will likely be a bit more subtle over the coming months.
What do you think? Let me know in the comments on Instagram: should I wash them this month, or wait a little longer?
I’ll be sharing an update every month to track how this pair transforms over time, so stay tuned for the next chapter. In the meantime, you can follow along on my personal account (@lennaertnijgh) as I continue putting this new fabric to the test.
